A mono-pitch roof runs the full width of the house and lifts toward the bay, so every main room takes the view along the same line. Schist columns carry the entry and the corner glazing, with cedar panels between them.

The owners had built once before, as newlyweds in the 1970s, and came back to it nearly fifty years later. They wanted the stone and the pitch to carry something of their Scottish heritage without the house pretending to be older than it is. The build was run while they were still living in Rotorua.
