The section drops hard from the road, so the house is held out over it and the deck runs out to meet the bush rather than the ground. Dark ribbed steel wraps the upper form, with cedar lining the recesses where the building is cut into.

Inside, the plan is turned so the kitchen and living face across the valley to Nelson and the bay, and a courtyard on the sheltered side gives somewhere to sit when the wind is up.
